Retirement Investing Styles
What kind of investor are you? Some people want to read all the literature and make their own choices. Others want to leave the decision-making to the professionals.
No matter your style, when planning for retirement, it’s important to know that if you invest, you will face market risk. It’s always there and, because of it, losing some of what you invest is a possibility. But there are ways to reduce the possible impact of market risk.
That’s why you may want to understand the concepts of asset allocation and diversification, and then decide how to apply these strategies when investing for retirement. And, remember, we can help. Just let us know how much involvement you’d like to have in your investment decisions.
Details on the Three Tier Plan
Do-it-for-me – Choose a T. Rowe Price Collective Investment Trust based on your estimated retirement date.
Do-it-yourself – Create a portfolio of investment options offered by the Plan based on your investment strategy and tolerance for risk. When considering your investment options, review the Risk/Return Profile (PDF) to understand the potential consequences of the investments you could choose.
Specialty Options – A selection of special interest options such as opportunistic growth, environmental, social, governance and self-directed.
Retirement Date Trusts are designed to provide diversification and asset allocation across several types of investments and asset classes, primarily by investing in underlying funds.
Retirement Date Trusts are designed for people who plan to withdraw funds during or near a specific year. Like other funds, they are subject to market risk and loss. Loss of principal can occur at any time, including before, at or after the target date. There is no guarantee that Retirement Date Trusts will provide enough income for retirement.
Before investing, you should carefully consider the option's investment objectives, risks, charges, and expenses. This and other information is contained in the fund prospectus, which is available by calling 1-800-422-8463. Read it carefully before you invest.
Fund performance
Fund performance can help you understand how a particular fund has performed – how much its value has gained or lost over different periods of time. Remember, you may not want to use fund performance alone to make investment decisions, past performance isn’t a guarantee of how the fund will perform in the future.
See how your investments are doing
The Plan sends and posts quarterly Investment Performance Reports (PDF) to provide participants with updated account information. Make sure you keep up on your investments so you can make adjustments where needed.
